Youth Cowboy Boots

Youth cowboy boots are available in just about any style and/or color you can find in adult cowboy boots. You can even find boys and girls cowboy boots in exotic skins like alligator, snake, ostrich, lizard, eel, elephant, sting ray, elk and buffalo. Although most parents opt for the more traditional cowhide leather.

In the traditional or western or classic style the heel has a tall boot shaft which goes up to about mid calf on an adult. The height on most children's cowboy boots will go at least to mid calf on most children and go well above that height on smaller children.

When fitting a children's cowboy boot you should know that the 'traditional" method used my most adults will most likely not result in a comfortable fit for a child. Most adults by a boot to fit fairly snug when it is new because it will loosen over time and the fit will become more comfortable. Because children feet are still growing you should buy a pair of cowboy boots that fit on the loose side when purchasing youth cowboy boots.

So for an adult a snug fit becomes looser but for a growing child the boot will start out snug and become even more uncomfortable. It is best to err on the side of buying a pair of boots that are too loose than to opt for a pair that appear to fit on the snug side.

Some people swear they can tell a big difference between the fit of boots manufactured by different companies. Others cannot tell any difference at all. For most children wearing youth cowboy boots, the manufacturers sizing is not as important as the fit.

If you want you child to be comfortable wearing their cowboy boots then you should opt for the more rounded toe too. The narrow toed adult cowboy boots may be popular but for a child the rounded toe boots are generally a lot more comfortable to wear.

While on the subject of types of toe styles in cowboy boots the reason original cowboy boots were made with pointed toes and slick bottoms is so they would slip into the stirrups easier. Not many people these days need the utility that cowboy boots were originally designed for. Today it's more about style, looks and color for most wearers.

To get the most comfort and sizing flexibility some manufacturers make youth cowboy boots with lace up shafts. Although the lace-ups do not quite have the looks of a more traditional cowboy boot, the ability to adjust the lacing as the child grows can be a great way to make a single pair of youth cowboy boots last a long time.

We hope this information has been helpful to you and that your little cowboy or cowgirls will really like their new youth cowboy boots.
